What Is a Job Estimate?
A job estimate is an approximation of the cost to complete a piece of work. Unlike a fixed quote, an estimate acknowledges that the final price may vary if the scope changes. It's commonly used when:

- Material prices are subject to availability

1. Your Business Details

2. The Customer's Details
Full name, address, and the site address if different. This avoids any confusion about what the estimate covers and for whom.
3. A Clear Description of the Work
Don't just write "boiler replacement" — write "supply and install Worcester Bosch Greenstar 30i combi boiler, including flue kit, system flush, and commissioning." The more specific you are, the fewer disputes you'll have.
4. Itemised Costs
Break out labour and materials separately. Customers don't need to know your exact margins, but they do want to see where their money is going. Itemised estimates win more often than lump-sum ones because they look transparent.
5. VAT (if applicable)
State clearly whether your prices include or exclude VAT. Showing a clean subtotal and VAT line eliminates a major source of post-job disputes.
6. What's Not Included
